Kathmandu, Sept. 6: Construction of a flyover in between Pulchowk and Kupandole of Lalitpur Metopolitan City (LMC) has been found feasible.
As per the preliminary report of the Consultant Company, the proposed Pulchowk-Kupandole flyover is seen feasible, said Raju Maharjan, spokesperson of the LMC.
Although the detailed feasibility study is yet to come, a recent presentation made by a consultant company based on the pre-feasibility study showed that flyover is feasible in between Pulchowk-Kupandole section and some other intersections, Maharjan said.
Maharjan said that a flyover has also seen feasible at Ekantakuna, Satdobato and Gwarko intersections.
He said that a feasibility study of flyover had begun realising the need of flyovers to address the problem of traffic congestion in the core areas of LMC.
He said that the consultant company would hand over the feasibility study report to LMC by November.
Padam Bahadur Shahi, chief consultant of the consulting company, said that they were working on the feasibility study. “We are conducting traffic, geological study as well as soil test for the feasibility study of the flyover,” shahi said.
Shahi said that the required data on the geological, traffic and soil test would be collected within one month and it would take some more months to submit the feasibility study report to LMC.
A meeting of the Executive committee of LMC held of June 5 had decided to construct a flyover in between Pulchowk and Kupondole to address the problem of traffic congestion in the route. The length of the flyover is expected to be around 1.5 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is lagging behind the LMC in constructing flyover in the metropolitan area.
Ishwor Man Dangol, spokesperson of the KMC, said that metropolitan was just trying to gather the reports of previous studies on flyovers to make the further study.
He said that the realisation had been made on the need of flyover in many parts of KMC to mitigate the problem of traffic congestion.
He said that the KMC would start the process of constructing flyover after studying reports of previous studies.
He, however, said that the KMC was planning to construct more than half dozen overhead bridges in metropolis area, including Maitighar, Chabahil, Naya Baneshwore and Teku in the current fiscal year.
