Progressive Writers' Association demands release of Maila Lama
Kathmandu, July 22: Progressive Writer’s Association Nepal has demanded immediate release of Maila Lama, Kathmandu valley in-charge of Biplov-led Communist Party of Nepal who was arrested on July 20 from Bhaktapur.
Issuing a press release on Monday, the umbrella organization of leftist writers said that Lama is also a creative writer, pro-people artist and he was its advisor.
“Our association’s serious attention has been drawn to the arrest of Maila Lama, a pro-people artist. As a result of long struggles, there is a communist government at this time leading democratic republican system and it is time for addressing people’s aspiration for peace, progress and prosperity. However, latest unusual incidents have indicated that the society is being pushed toward conflict, which is obviously not pleasant. In this context, we believe that political dispute should be resolved through dialogue,” read the press release undersigned by Prof. Dr. Jibendra Dev Giri, chair of the association, and Sameer Singh, general secretary of the association.
