President inaugurates statue of Siddhicharan Shrestha
By Manoj Bhattarai, Okhaldhunga, May 23: President Bidya Devi Bhandari said on Thursday that the country was moving forward by adhering to the principles of social justice and equality.
Inaugurating the life-size statue of Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha and the Creators Park built in Siddhicharan Municipality-12, she said that the ultimate aim of the state was to achieve national prosperity.
"A prosperous Nepal will be achieved through the development of a district like Okhaldhunga which is blessed with limitless natural and cultural splendour," President Bhandari remarked.
She also suggested the state and the local governments to start developing the district's cultural, tourism and hydroelectricity potentials.
She further stressed the need for the State government to produce competent human resources, develop industries and generate local employment by providing quality vocational education.
"Delivery of cheap and reliable services through expansion and enhancement of the road network, management of drinking water and development of integrated settlements in the hilly areas can help realise the dream of prosperity," she said.
The president also praised Siddhicharan Shrestha's poems for being an inspiration to an entire generation and said that his writings reflected a great love towards nature and his birthplace.
Honouring various authors who have contributed to national life through the field of literature, she urged writers, artists and creative personalities to convey hope of a brighter future among the general people.
President Bhandari, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel and State 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai, arrived in Okhaldhunga by an army helicopter on Thursday. The inauguration programme was organised by Siddhicharan Municipality and Yugkavi Siddhicharan Foundation.
The park also consists of the statutes of first female singer Melwadevi, folk singer Pandav Sunuwar and Byakul Mahila, the composer of national anthem.
The park was built by using the budget of Constituency Infrastructure Development Programme in coordination with Siddhicharan Municipality, according to lawmaker Yagya Raj Sunuwar.
