Judicial Council recommends five names for SC judges
Kathmandu, April 2: The Judicial Council has recommended five judges for appointments at the Supreme Court (SC).
The Council meeting held under its chair and Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana today recommended the names of five judges for appointments to posts lying vacant at the SC. They are High Court, Patan’s chief judge Prakash Dhungana; High Court, Surkhet’s chief judge Sushmalata Mathema; former Attorney General Hari Phuyal ( among legal practitioners); senior advocate Kumar Regmi and advocate Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma ( from Kathmandu), said Council’s secretary Devendra Raj Dhakal.
The article (129) of the constitution has the provisions about the recommendation and appointment of SC judges. As per the constitution, the SC shall consist of a maximum 20 judges, in addition to the CJ. The President shall appoint the Chief Justice, on recommendation of the Constitutional Council, and other Judges of the Supreme Court, on recommendation of the JC.
Deepak Kumar Karki (on behalf of the SC senior-most judge) and members Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal; Ram Prasad Sitaula and Padam Prasad Baidik were present in the meeting.
