Province-5 Province Assembly postponed after NC protest
Rupandehi, Feb 1: The Province Assembly of Province no 5 has been postponed today due to the obstruction by legislators of the opposition party, the Nepali Congress.
The Nepali Congress legislators obstructed the Assembly session, calling for protecting the life of Dr Govinda KC, who is on a hunger strike for 24 days today demanding reform in the medical education sector. They also protested saying the government has failed to book the culprits of the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur.
Assembly speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti announced the postponement of the Assembly session until February 5 saying the session could not be run due to the protest by the opposition party after Leader of the opposition party, Baldev Sharma Pokhrel, expressed dismay over the government’s negligence towards saving Dr KC’s life and the failure to nab Panta’s murderers, and declared that the session could not move ahead.
Presenting the Bill Providing for Formation and the Works, Duties and Responsibilities of the Province No 5 Investigation Commission with its report and the Bill Designed to Provide for Province No 5 Statistics in the Assembly were in the agenda today.
