'Fulfill aspirations of identity movement'
Kathmandu, Aug 4. Scholars have stressed on the need to fulfill aspirations of identity movement by naming Provinces of Nepal based on identity.
The scholars made such demands at an interaction 'Identity movements in the present context' organized by Newa National Journalist Forum on Friday.
Sociologist Upesh Maharajan presented a paper about 'Identity, Identity based federalism and Secession Rights' in the interaction.
Since there is no any provision of self-determination of caste based autonomy in the new constitution, he emphasized that the name of the provinces might be given according to their identity of any caste with the largest population in the given province.
'Because federalism is self ruled and shared rule, it is favourable to address their identity of language and ethinicity rather than region and religion' he argued.
He said ensuring identity was necessary to make ethnic people come in the mainstream politics for ever lasting peace and economic strength, also to make them feel ownership of federalism.
In the interaction, Sri Krishna Maharjan, the president of Newa National Journalist Forum, also demanded fulfilment of aspirations of identity movement for identity based federalism.
