Singer Oli withdraws her candidacy
Kathmandu, Nov. 6:Popular folk singer Komal Oli has withdrawn her candidacy from Dang-3 in mid-west Nepal.
Singer Oli had recently joined the CPN-UML by quitting the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, with the hope of getting a ticket to contest the election to the House of Representative s from one of Dang’s constituencies.
But after the UML denied her an election ticket, she had filed her candidacy as a rebel candidate to official UML candidate, Surya KC, in Constituency-3 of Dang.
"I withdrew my candidacy this afternoon in the presence of CPN-UML secretary Shankar Pokharel," Oli told The Rising Nepal on Sunday.
She said she would fully support the UML candidates in the elections.
Oli, who had joined the UML after holding consultations with Pokharel a few weeks ago, was angry with the party after she was not given an election ticket and filed her candidacy as an independent.
Oli had joined politics by quitting her job at Radio Nepal.
She was elected a central member of the RPP in its unity convention held in February this year.
